Easy DIY paper doily Christmas trees

Put spare doilies to good use with this easy craft idea for your Christmas table.

You will need

  • Straws
  • Doilies in small, medium and large
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Double sided tape or glue
  • Card for the star (optional)
  • Shot glass or egg cup
  • Salt

Step 1

Take three doilies – a small, medium and a large size. Use scissors to cut out about a third of each doily. Cut a small circle in the middle so it can wrap around the straw.

Step 2

Starting from one inch from the top and working your way down, wrap three small strips of sticky tape around the straw, about an inch apart. White tack is fine if you have no sticky tape.

Step 3

Carefully wrap the smallest doily around the bottom strip of sticky tape, securing it in place using double sided-tape or glue on the sides. Do the same with the other two, using the smaller doily for the top.

Step 4

Cut out a star shape from card and stick it to the top of the straw.

Step 5

Fill a shot glass with salt (to look like snow) and stand your tree up inside it.

Tip: If you don’t have any doilies to hand, simply use cupcake cases instead – just flatten them down and cut them as above. You could also use festive wrapping paper.
