You will need
- A cereal box
- Paints and brushes
- Decorative washi tape
- Wooden spoons
- Fabric (to create curtains)
- Sticky tape
- Colouring pencils
- Felt-tip pens
- Downloadable puppet templates
Carefully pull the cereal box open and, using scissors, cut off the back panel. Draw an outline on the outside of the box where the theatre ‘window’ will be.
Carefully cut out the window. It might help to punch a hole through the middle of the area you’re cutting out with a pencil beforehand, as a place to begin cutting from.
Create the curtains by cutting the fabric into two sections (making sure they’re the correct size for the window) and sticking them above the window with sticky tape.
Punch a hole through the card on either side of the window using a pencil, and thread some string through the hole to create curtain ties.
With the inner side of the cereal box facing up, decorate it using strips of washi tape and whatever other craft supplies you like, such as colouring pencils and glitter.
Fold the lower side flaps backwards and glue to the central flap at the bottom, so that the theatre takes shape as a self-standing box.
To create the puppets, download and print out our templates and colour them in with colouring pencils. Then cut them out and stick them to wooden spoons, or draw your own faces on the spoons with felt-tip pens.
Set up the puppet theatre on a table and let the kids put on a magical show.
