Easy DIY advent calendar for 2016

This simple advent calendar idea can be reused every year, just refill the envelopes with small gifts.

You will need:

  • Brown paper (or 24 small envelopes)
  • Felt numbers (or you could use coloured paper)
  • Glue
  • Chocolate coins
  • Large embroidery hoop (if you don’t have one, you could use a photo frame, mirror or corkboard)
  • Coloured string
  • Small baubles, bells or other assorted decorations
  • Scissors
  • 24 mini wooden pegs

Step 1

Make 24 little envelopes out of the brown paper (or use any small envelopes you have) and number them from 1 to 24 sticking on your felt numbers. Pop a chocolate coin or other small gift into each envelope. Leave to one side.

Step 2

Open up the embroidery frame and lay five lengths of coloured string across, threading on a few small baubles, bells and decorations.

Step 3

Close up the frame and tighten to secure the thread tightly. Trim any excess from the back. If you’re using a frame or mirror, use washi tape to secure the string in place.

Step 4

Peg the numbered envelopes randomly on to the lengths of thread, adding extra decorations and tucking paper snowflakes and stars under the pegs too.
