Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a fantastic series of women-only fundraising events, ranging from hikes and 5K jogs to muddy obstacle courses and full marathons. Since it began in 1994, Race for Life has raised more than £550 million to help Cancer Research UK’s pioneering work to bring forward the day when all cancers are curable. The events take place across the UK, so wherever you live you can join in the fun by taking part, sponsoring a friend or relative, or even volunteering to help out on the day.
Energy and passion
Tesco is proud to be the Official Partner of Race for Life for the 16th year running. The energy, passion and generosity shown by Tesco customers and colleagues who take part in the race each year continues to astound. It’s the collective effort that has helped to raise millions of pounds to fund Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. But there’s still more to do.
Do what you can
This summer, there are hundreds of Race for Life events taking place up and down the country, including 5 and 10Ks, half and full marathons, hikes and daring Pretty Muddy obstacle courses. The aim is to raise more than £50 million this year, which is why your support is vital. With a variety of events to choose from, and entry open to all ages, it doesn’t matter if you’re not a natural runner – you can walk, jog or even dance the distance to the finish line. And if you need some inspiration and motivation for your fundraising and training efforts, the Race for Life website has some great hints and tips on how to make the most of the big day.
Julie Pope, marketing assistant at Tesco, and her sister Paula Jewell, main board director PA, have been a part of Race for Life since their first race back in 2002; both know well the incredible sense of achievement that participation in the event brings.
"Our mum was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 50," says Julie. "So when we found out Tesco was sponsoring Race for Life we knew we had to be a part of it. It really was the most fantastic and emotional day. We did it for our mum, and in her 70th year, she joined us and we all 'raced' across the finish line together."Join today: It's easy to join in, with your family, friends and colleagues, and help walk all over cancer.
