How to make Christmas string ornaments

Decorate the Christmas tree with these DIY baubles using leftover string or twine.

You will need

  • Balloons
  • Wool (string or twine)
  • Bowl
  • PVA glue
  • Water
  • Scissors
  • Glitter

Step 1

Blow up the balloon to the desired bauble size and tie a knot. To achieve a nice round shape try blowing up the balloon to full size and slowly deflate.

Step 2

Wrap the wool around the balloon and be sure to rotate it to achieve a random pattern. Leave enough wool at the top to loop and tie off at the end.

Step 3

Make a 50:50 mix of PVA glue and water in a bowl. Dip and roll the balloon in the glue mixture.

Step 4

Sprinkle silver glitter all over the string balloon and leave to dry overnight.

Step 5

Once fully dry, carefully pop the balloon and remove it from a gap in the wool or string.

Step 6

Using the excess wool, tie a loop and hang from your Christmas tree or statement branches.

Tip: For a bit of colour, mix some paint into your watery-glue mixture. You could also use superglue to stick sequins or gems in place.
