How to make ribbon tree decorations

Put leftover ribbon and beads to good use with these elegant hanging decorations.

You will need

  • Ribbon of choice
  • Beads, similar width to the ribbon works best
  • Needle
  • Thread

Step 1

Start by feeding the needle through some thread and knot the first bead at the end of the thread.

Step 2

Leaving a couple of centimeters at the end of the ribbon, bend it and thread the needle through, adding another bead.

Step 3

Bend the ribbon back on itself, threading the needle through again and adding another bead.

Step 4

Repeat this process until near the end of the thread. Be sure to decrease the amount of ribbon each time to get the desired tree shape.

Step 5

Add one last bead to finish the decoration – we topped our ribbon trees with a star, but if you wish you can use the same beads throughout.

Step 6

Using the thread that’s leftover, create a loop and tie securely so it’s ready to hang.

Tip: Try swapping ribbon for thin strips of fabric with different prints or even use old buttons in between instead of beads.
