DIY chalk paint for outdoors

Take painting outside with these easy-to-make chalk paints using a few items from the kitchen cupboard.

You will need

  • Squeezy bottles or used plastic bottles
  • Black marker
  • Cornflour
  • Warm water
  • A range of liquid food colourings
  • Paintbrushes
  • Muffin tray

Step 1

Label the plastic bottle with the name of the colour using a black marker.

Step 2

Half fill the bottle with cornflour.

Step 3

Fill up the bottle with the same amount of warm water.

Step 4

Add four or five drops of food colouring to the bottle.

Step 5

Secure the lid and shake the bottle until the ingredients are mixed. You may need to stir the mixture with the end of a paintbrush to make sure it is entirely mixed.

Step 6

Repeat this process to make other colours.

Step 7

Squeeze out the colours into something that has compartments. We’ve used a muffin tray, but an ice cube tray would work just as well.

Step 8

Get painting on the pavement in the garden. To remove, just rinse with water. You can also use the liquid chalk paints on an ordinary chalkboard, perfect for rainy days.
